Compare / Claude + the NetSuite AI Connector

Erstan vs Claude + the NetSuite AI Connector

Oracle’s NetSuite AI Connector Service lets an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT read and write NetSuite under your role. Erstan works through the same standard NetSuite tools, then adds what a finance team needs to hand over recurring work: agents, skills and a review stage.

Where Erstan and the AI Connector differ

Agents built for finance desks

ErstanEight role agents, including Finance, AP, AR and Inventory, each with its NetSuite skills and starter prompts included.

The AI ConnectorOracle provides a prompt library and skills plug-ins. The assistant is general purpose, and the working method is yours to assemble.

Approval is the default, not a setting

ErstanTools that can write start at Require approval. The agent pauses, shows the exact change and waits for Run action or Don’t run.

The AI ConnectorWhether a write pauses depends on the AI client and each person’s settings. Oracle recommends clients that confirm high-impact actions.

Work that starts without a chat

ErstanAgents start from a schedule, an inbound email, a webhook or a form, as well as chat. Each run becomes a task that moves to Needs Review.

The AI ConnectorThe connector has no triggers of its own. Scheduling comes from the task features of whichever assistant you connect.

A record of who approved what

ErstanEvery run keeps a step-by-step trace, and approvals are written to a hash-chained ledger that an admin can export.

The AI ConnectorNetSuite logs connector requests on the integration record. The reasoning stays in each person’s chat history.

Beyond the standard tools

ErstanThe Erstan NetSuite Add-on adds supported actions such as attaching files, sending NetSuite email and transforming records, each behind approval.

The AI ConnectorThe standard tools cover records, saved searches, reports and read-only SuiteQL. Anything more means custom tools written in SuiteScript.

One place for the team

ErstanTeams hold their own agents, tasks, content and members. People and agents work from the same task list.

The AI ConnectorThe connector is a bridge into NetSuite. It does not add a shared queue of agent work for a team.

Same tools, different job

The connector is the bridge, not the worker.

The AI Connector Service gives an assistant governed access to your account. What happens with that access is up to whoever is typing. Erstan sits on the same standard tools and supplies the worker: agents with NetSuite skills, a defined set of steps and a review stage before anything is written.

Recurring work

From a good answer to a finished task.

Chat is a fine way to ask about open bills. Month-end is not a question. Erstan agents start on a schedule or when an invoice arrives, follow the same steps each time and leave the result in Needs Review with the evidence attached.

Control

Approval is where writes start.

Tools that can write start at Require approval. An Owner or Admin can move a tool to Allow or Deny, and Deny always wins, even when someone has switched on auto-approve. The approval card shows the exact change, and the decision is recorded with who made it.

When the AI Connector is the better choice

  • You already pay for Claude or ChatGPT and want answers from NetSuite today, at no extra cost from Oracle.
  • The work is ad hoc: one person exploring data, writing SuiteQL or answering a one-off question.
  • You want Oracle’s own supported route and nothing further to deploy.

Questions people ask

Does Erstan replace the NetSuite AI Connector?

No. Erstan agents use NetSuite’s standard MCP tools, and the Erstan NetSuite Add-on extends them. If your team already uses the connector with Claude or ChatGPT, the two sit side by side.

Can an assistant using the connector write to NetSuite?

Yes. The standard tools can create and update records under your role; SuiteQL is read-only. That is why it matters who approves a write and where the decision is recorded.

Can Claude or ChatGPT run NetSuite work on a schedule?

Both assistants have their own scheduled task features, and the connector itself has no triggers. Erstan agents have schedule, email, webhook and form triggers built in, and every run lands as a task.

Can I use Erstan from Claude?

Yes. The Erstan plugin connects Claude and Codex to the hosted Erstan MCP server, so you can run agents and build agent drafts from there.

Which models does Erstan use?

Erstan curates a model catalog. A workspace uses Erstan Managed access or its own provider API key, chooses which models are enabled, and can set a default or let Auto pick within its limits.
